I obtained 2 matching library card file credenzas from my neighbor–a really generous reward. Should you look carefully you may see this 60 drawer credenza consists of 4 sections bolted together. I removed the screws distmantling the credenza which included freeing the highest and bottom 1-1/4″ boards.

Mother eliminated all of the brass from the drawers (120pc) and cleaned each with fine steel wool.

Listed below are 1/3 of the drawers I sanded wooden fronts, primed, and a pair of prime coats of satin enamel. These vintage library card file drawers have plastic packing containers with wooden fronts–easy to maintain clear.

This is what the credenzas looked like as I started the project. Flaking paint and very dirty brass.

Other issues I refurbished for the studio–four steel chairs, bought for a couple dollars each. I put new soy foam on them and purchased remnant fabric at Hancock fabrics–my dwelling away from residence, ha ha.

The metallic chairs had been so stinky, we hauled them house from the storage sale gagging all the way.

Taking the chair apart gave I got form fitting measurements.

I recovered 2 wood chairs–here is one after I completed the upholstery.

As a result of these chairs where my FIRST upholstery initiatives, I photographed every stage of deconstruction, (insurance that I may put them back together again).

The two wooden chairs price $5 each at a yard sale. In addition they smelled terrible and have been so full of dander I needed to placed on a mask even though I did the deconstruction exterior. It was bad, very dangerous.

I started out with new soy primarily based foam, and bargain fabric from the clearance section of Hancock fabrics.
Finest tools: sharp scissors, electric staple gun, and confidence.

Right and Left: stacked card recordsdata. Jon rigorously eliminated (sawed-off) the backsplash on the countertops to accommodate 29×57 home windows. Sadly, the purple chair goes to Goodwill next week. I’m going to buy myself a new chair!

The lights are all discontinued products (reduced worth).

Initially $49 every, I bought the last four light fixtures at Menard’s in Plover, WI for $15 every.

But first I requested lighting clerk for a print-out of different Menard’s shops that had the identical fixtures discountinued/on sale–to verify I might get all 14 fixtures I needed for the studio.

Utilizing the print out I called Menard stores in different states. I bought the remaining 10 fixtures from Menard stores in Galesburg, IL (near my parents), and had the Des Moines IA and Rockford IL fixtures shipped to me.

Including shipping costs–I saved $450 using discontinued gentle fixtures.

I am looking at the south end (balcony past the double doorways). To the fitting is the west dormer (sewing space), and to the left is the east dormer elevator.

Any guess what this recycled merchandise once was, or will be?

Let me begin by saying, every scholar will have an easel, chair, and picket tv tray. I purchased 12 picket tv trays at varied garage sales–primed and painted them black satin. A number of the television trays came with their very own caddy. It is a television tray storage caddy.

However I am going to make use of it for paintings display on the countertop.

Wanting north now–Jon is in the north end engaged on another countertop and more library card file storage.

Pretty congested house right now with the noticed and rail.

Last week I painted the platforms black for the library card recordsdata.

A temporary stick holds countertop that’s screwed to a wall cleat. I took these photographs yesterday, however right this moment Jon added cleats to the card file sides, to support bigger boards, beneath the laminate countertop– then add an apron simply behind the bullnose to cover the assist boards.

As I write this weblog, Jon is fabricating 2 plywood boxes that will sit on top of the left and proper card information. These two 2 plywood containers will prolong to the ceiling, and create canvas storage area. Tomorrow I’ll begin the task of priming the boxes and painting them black satin to match the card recordsdata.

Every field will have one shelf. The lower cubbies can be 32 inches excessive, 33 inches vast, and 24 inches deep–accommodating larger canvases. Upper cubbies 28 inches high hold smaller size canvases.

The card files have 17″ deep drawers, and so the card file bins should not as deep because the countertop. We’re holding the house open within the again, as a result of there are retailers simply inside a fingers reach.

Here’s my Jon. All the time a smile on his face. He can construct something! I positive love him.

Wanting throughout the room, into the east dormer. The backside of this closet door is the elevator, accessible from the east dormer.

Right here is the elevator shaft, with make-do-for-the-moment styrofoam sheets, (freezing weather outside).
No elevator but. We nonetheless climb an aluminum ladder to get to the artwork studio.
I think the elevator will happen later this spring. I believe.

Jon’s favorite saying: (from the Purple Inexperienced Present) . . .
I’m a man,
And i can change,
If I should.

I will be posting more studio pictures this week.
I’m excited about the shelf rails to be installed around the wall perimeter–possibly tomorrow.

Goodnight for now. Sleep tight.
